Madder is a plant whose flower is yellow but whose roots are used to dye textiles a bright red.
Madder cultivation is very old. The village of Althen des Paluds in the Vaucluse was the centre of madder cultivation in the 19th century. The Vaucluse generated 65 % of madder cultivation in 1839. Only one mill remains today: the Saint Pierre mill at Les Taillades along the Carpentras canal.
This colour was used to dye the trousers of soldiers in the First World War.

Come and stay in an authentic Provençal house, transformed into a charming hotel in 1991.
The hotel is located 4 km from Bédoin in the heart of the hamlet of Sainte Colombe on the southern slopes of Mont Ventoux. It is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards.
We have 17 bedrooms don't 15 transformable into twin beds and Three bed rooms. Some of our comfort rooms are equipped with an extra bed to accommodate children.
The hotel has 3 ground-floor bedrooms and’an accessible room for people with reduced mobility.
The swimming pool, open from May to October, allows you to relax and cool off after your walks. You can admire Mont Ventoux from your sun lounger.

Located at the foot of Mont Ventoux on the South slope, the hotel is an ideal place from which to attempt the ascent of the Giant of Provence.
Many cycling routes are possible from the hotel without taking the car, notably the Gorges de la Nesque, which are well worth a visit.
Many walking routes start from Sainte Colombe.
Many Provençal markets in the villages around the establishment will allow you to stroll while tasting delicious specialities.
Culture and history enthusiasts: the hotel will allow you to visit many tourist sites and villages.

The car park
The hotel has private parking with 10 spaces (available to residents, unfortunately with no possibility of advance booking).
However, you also benefit from two large outdoor car parks opposite the hotel (free parking).
Electric charging
The hotel is equipped with a double electric charging point.
This will allow all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles compatible with a 7 kWh Type 2 socket or a 3.6 kWh GreenUp socket to be recharged.
The charging point can accommodate 2 vehicles simultaneously.
Secure bicycle garages
The hotel has, in its enclosed and secure courtyard:
– 3 outdoor bike shelters; ;
– 1 place equipped with an electrical socket to recharge batteries
It is not possible to reserve your bicycle parking space in advance. Please remember to bring your own locks, as they are not provided by the hotel.

The swimming pool
The swimming pool is open every day (Monday to Sunday) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It is open from May to October.

Mont Ventoux
LE GEANT DE PROVENCE
Also known as the "Giant of Provence," Mont Ventoux rises to an altitude of 1,910 meters. Upon reaching the summit, on a clear day, you can catch a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea as well as snow-capped Mont Blanc.
Renowned worldwide, its slopes are tackled by many cyclists seeking to take on the same challenge as the famous riders of the legendary Tour de France.
A Listed Site
Designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve, Mont Ventoux boasts exceptionally rich flora and fauna.
It is an ideal place to immerse yourself in nature with the family, setting out from the hotel.
We would like to draw your attention to the weather conditions at the summit: in summer, the temperature difference between the valley and the summit can be as much as 10 degrees due to the wind. Please ensure you are equipped accordingly.

Mount Ventoux is a peak located in the French department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Rising to an elevation of 1,910 meters, it measures approximately 25 kilometers in length from east to west and 15 kilometers in width from north to south. Nicknamed the "Giant of Provence" or the "Bald Mountain," it is the highest point of the Vaucluse Mountains and the highest peak in the Vaucluse department. Its geographical isolation makes it visible from great distances. It marks the linguistic boundary between Northern and Southern Occitan.
Its predominantly limestone composition and the extensive scree slopes near the summit account for the peak's striking whiteness. The mountain also exhibits intense karstification resulting from water erosion. Precipitation is particularly heavy in spring and autumn; rainwater seeps into underground passages and re-emerges at springs with fluctuating flow rates, such as the Fontaine de Vaucluse or the Groseau spring.
